New York General Municipal Law
In the State of New York, a claimant must timely serve a Notice of Claim upon the proper individual(s) in order to later file a lawsuit against a "public corporation," "public authority," or "public benefit corporation."
Examples of public corporations and authorities include:
- village;
- town
- city;
- county;
- fire districts;
- water districts;
- industrial development agency; and
- public benefit corporations;
