Yaz Lawsuits
Yaz is a combination birth control pill containing drospirenone and ethinyl estradiol. It has been marketed by Bayer as 99% effective at preventing pregnancy, as well as the only birth control pill that also treats premenstrual dysphoric disorder (PMDD). PMDD is a physical and emotional condition that many women suffer from before menstration. Common symptoms of PMDD include severe depression, irritability and tension.
Recent studies suggest that women who take Yaz, a fourth generation contraceptive, may be at an increased risk for serious side effects, including blood clots, stroke and heart attacks.
Yaz problems may also include:
- headaches,
- leg swelling,
- arm swelling,
- crushing chest pain,
- blurred vision,
- double vision, and
- loss of vision.
Public Citizen has stated that "[t]here is no medical reason that you should be using Yaz rather than one of the older pills containing the progestins norgestrel, levonorgestrel or northindrone."
